Nitin Singhania Art and Culture

Details of Nitin Singhania Art and Culture

  • The book contains a New Appendix on current affairs related to art and culture.

  • The book also includes Previous years questions of 2018, 2019 and also a new set of practice questions have been included in the required chapters (according to UPSC pattern).

  • It is an incredible book for the topic and all the data you need is in here.

Pros of Nitin Singhania Art and Culture

  • The book covers all facets of Indian Art and Culture, the best aspect is that it is very much in the "notes" form. It will save your time from formulating separate notes for exams.

  • It is very much precise and updated. The information provided in the book is enormous and diverse (so is the culture of India and also UPSC syllabus) but the structure of the text and the pictographic presentations help in memorizing most of it.

  • The book is very crisp and concise.

  • Noteworthy words/facts in every paragraph are highlighted which comes in convenient while making notes (if you choose to make it - though it has poor ROI).

  • The book explains Indian art and culture most lucidly and briefly from ancient, medieval, modern and posts independence.

  • The question given at the end of each chapter leads you to conceptual clarity. It mentions current affairs also which is a very good initiative.

  • It is easier to read about Art and Culture if one can visualize it and this book does that very well with all the pictures in it.

  • Good looking content formats and straightforward language lead us towards the next page unintended.

Cons of Nitin Singhania Art and Culture

  • According to a few, the information covered in the book is huge.

  • My friend says the book is relevant but the information it covers is too much (which may be hard for a lazy person).

  • The book is too decorated if you like to read books which are just simple and hate images and pictures or underlining you don't buy.

  • UPSC is highly unpredictable so it's not sure that you read the book completely and you will answer all the questions from art and culture.

Why should I buy?

  • There is no better substitute for Nitin Singhania art and culture (who himself has cracked UPSC).

  • It's better to purchase a book which has too much information as you can choose what you don't want to read rather than a book which has very little information and you have to refer to other books (which is the same thing).

Suggestions

  • I would suggest one must go for the latest edition because the latest edition has a lot of coloured pictures (earlier it had all pink pictures).

  • The crucial points are highlighted properly according to their importance in UPSC CSE. You don't even need to make notes (because it's already in notes form) and this book is very easy when it comes to revision (most of the parts are in small para or bullet forms).

  • The book contains (i.e. the latest edition) new chapters on Buddhism and Jainism (which is a sure question in UPSC) & India through the eyes of foreign travellers (which is also a favourite area for UPSC to ask questions from).
